That's So Raven...Who?

Remember that cute little girl that was Denise's daughter on the Cosby Show? ...No, not Rudy!

Newsweek is asking the question, why not Raven? Why is it that Raven Symone doesn't have the paparazzi taking snapshots of her public outings, her relaxing on the beach, or eating in her favorite restaurants? She's young, pretty, has her own hit show...but she's no Lindsay Lohan. She's not even comparable to an Olsen twin. What gives? Oh wait, she's black! Don't take my word for it, listen to this photographer: "It's understood that African-American celebrities aren't the big deal their white counterparts are in magazines," says Bill Jones, a photographer who regularly shoots celebrities for Ebony, Jet and Essence magazines. "Half of the celebrity photographers I know that aren't black couldn't tell a black celeb if it wasn't Will Smith or Halle Berry. They only know the obvious ones. And even then, there's not a whole lot of interest." She said that at her 19th birthday party, only one paparazzi guy showed up. "It was so sad. I mean, I was dressed up and ready to party and not one flash went off. My mom is always telling me not to leave the house with my sweats and T shirts that might have jam from breakfast on them. But I know they don't even know who I am." But Raven doesn't let that phase her. She's keepin' it real! "My fans know I love my cheese grits with shrimp, and I'm not giving them up to be a size 2. They know I wear a weave to make my hair look right and I don't always look glamorous all the time. I don't even worry about that type of stuff that much. You're not going to see me with clothes that just let everything hang out. And it's not because of my size, but because it's just not me. I think that's what parents like about our show."

I don't know much about her, but damn that white chick on the show is HOT! Anneliese I think her name is, she plays Chelsea. Anyways, Raven was funny on The Cosby Show. But she sure has gotten chubby since then. Sorry girl, but if you wanna make it big like those "It" girls, you gotta whore yourself out and snort lines of coke in the bathroom of the hot clubs in Hollywood and L.A. It's the only way to survive! Oh, and be a slut. That helps a lot. They call it networking...

Its that black celebrities aren't whoring themselves out and creating drama in their lives...thats why their photos aren't desireable. They are down to earth people and thats great for them because I love them more for it. When i read shit about Paris and Lindsay it just makes me wish they would die. When I see Black celebrities I am the first one to ask for an autograph...I never recognize any of the white ones until someone else tells me who they are...Its because they look like such coked out pieces of shit in person.

it's not about being balck or white why does everything has to come down to race, i thought we have moved past that shit, it's b/c the way she's dresses and her size. but ther's nothing wrong with that her time will come and she will be respected. i love her show "thats so raven" and i'm 22 i know to old to watch dinsey but whateva. she's funny too not to many young girls are doing comedy and i think she's funny so she will make it give her time, and stop using that stupid excuse of her skin color, just excuses.

Poor Raven! It's so disappointing to read articles (like the one posted here), but I know that what they say is true.

Personally, I don't watch "That's So Raven," but it's been on for a while so I am sure that some people do. She should get more recognition. Another person who deserves more recognition: Tracee Ellis Ross (Diana Ross's daughter) from "Girlfriends." She is very talented, smart, and deserves to be both seen and heard!

the race issue is true how many other black celebs are there besides beyonce that are really photographed? not too many. it is sad to say, but it is true celeb tabloids don't care about minority scandals at all. And that goes for all minorities in general!

aww its good that raven doesnt play into all the things that everyone else does. its sad that everyone expects you to be skinny in order to be sucessful. its a sick sad world we live in and yet i cant look away....
but id take ravens life over lindsey blowhans anyday of the week. at least raven wont be in and out of rehab and having to give blow jobs for parts in movies like lindsey will have to do (or already does)

I dont know if i agree. Lil Kims in the tabloids a lot thats beacuse she makes scandals . so its all about the scandals i think. and like asian people? the only asian ive seen in mags is Bai Ling.

she is just too much of a good girl for these days. that translates into boring. plus being chunky doesnt help. if she dropped about 20 pounds asap it might bring some attention to her. she needs to do a popular disney movie or something like that.

Some of you are really slow! This girl is the only BLACK in the ranks with the under fed white teens, and she's holding her own. People know who she is, she's not complaining, the journalist is complaining of how good of a person she is, but seems to be overlooked by most of the media. It's about skin color, it's not about her weight. She is and looks like the girl next door. The person above is right about everything except weight...please. She's not even big, get over your "skinny loving" selves. People these days and their digressions about weight, make me sick. I like that Raven looks like a woman and not a 10 year old white boy.

Raven is very talented, intelligent,beautiful, and very nice. She does not need to act like Beyonce or Britney Spears and be a freak. She has the class all women need and is a great model.

I agree with Erin. When I was reading the article I had to laugh. It isn't cus she is black. It IS because she is not pretty enough and not skinny enough for the press. Shes not a crazy party girl. She's not an A list actress. What does the girl do to get the paparazzi's attn?? Nothing...ab-so-lutely nothing. What? Cuz she has a TV show that I wouldn't call a hit... it's just a TV show for kids. The paparazzi wants A-Listers like Will Smith, Halley Berry, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lopez etc... If you are not on that list you need to be a party girl or on a beach in a bikini that reveals your ugly's or wearing a goose dress to the awards. Now quick go tell her to get the ugliest dress and wear it to the next awards show or put on a bikini 2 sizes to small and go to the beach or better yet wear a mini shirt and go to a club and get trashed and have someone pick you up so that your butt is showing. Is this what you people want?? I think she is smart. She has her TV show, laughs her way to the bank, and doesn't have to worry about the paparazzi stalking her.

I think that that is crap. Just because Raven is a little bit heavier thatn any other celebirty and is colored doesn't mean that she needs to be sluttier and shit like that. I think that Raven is beautiful, talented, and and just plain great. Also she doesn't care what other people think of here. She is her own person and doesn't need to be snorting coke in a bathroom in a hot night club in L.A.

Raven is very pretty, much prettier than some celebrities in the public eye. I don't really think it comes down to race as much as the fact that she doesn't go out and snort coke, make sex tapes or have an eating disorder. Love it or hate it, that's what makes the headlines, and I respect Raven for not doing that.
