I bought cautiously as there are not a lot of reviews on these headphones. I''m sure you have some questions like I did before getting them.
#1 Is the noise cancelling any good?
Yes it is. It is not the best. Sony at this time has the best, but I have tested Sony''s system and while it is better, I don''t miss the more advanced noise cancelling. I can fall perfectly into my own world with these Aria Pros. Compared to the Anker Q20 I believe these are better, but you are splitting hairs at this point. The Avantree gives a very honest explanation of their noise cancellation. It will not cancel higher pitch / non-repetitive noises. In a way those noises are easier to hear when droning noises are taken away. I still would rather have noise cancellation than not have it.
These don''t have ambient mode, but so far I''m not missing it.
#2 Is the audio quality good?
Yes it is good. Not amazing, not par, but good. If you are editing movies for the big screen with doby atmos tuned speakers, you aren''t going to be using something like the Aria. But if you are editing youtube videos, making work calls, watching movies, then these are going to work great. I have tried on several headphones sets from 2019, and I can say these beat out most although again I had to switch back and forth about 20 times to tell the difference. Headphones like the Anker and Sony and Bose and JBL, all have differen''t sound signatures, but to say one is better than the other is painfully difficult.
The one exception to this I can say is in comparing audio quality with noise cancelling on. Sony really shines hear, Bose too, but besides that all other headphones seem to take a quality penalty when noise cancelling is on. It''s not a lot but it''s there if you close your eyes and listen close. Without anything to compare it too, you won''t notice honestly.
So to wrap it up, If you only listen to wav audio files at 44khz+ get something else. If you watch YouTube, listen to itunes, spotify, google music, etc. The quality is very good and you likely won''t be able to discern anything better.
#3 Is the boom mic worth it?
This was difficult. I had to test it with my audio recording app. What I can conclude is the built in mic in the ear cups seems to be of the same quality as the mic built into the boom mic. The built in mic did a better job than most built in mics on other headphones. It''s actually good enough for most work calls. The boom mic simply gets the mic right in front of your face. This is good and bad. The bad is the mic being very sensitive is easy to peak on. Projecting talk into the boom mic will clip a lot. The good is you can talk in a near whisper and the other person will hear you as if you were talking at a normal level.
You can always move the mic away from your mouth to get the levels down, but there is no sensitivity control in the headset. I really am 50:50 on if I will ever use the boom mic or not. Avantree if you are reading this, please come out with a boom mic "pro" with a higher quality mic than the one in this current boom mic. Include a gain adjustment dial. I love the idea of a boom mic, but I expect to get "great" audio when using an add on boom mic. Not the same "good" audio as the built in mic.
#4 Will they last?
I would say they are better built than most headphones I have tried on. Any difference between these and the Sony''s is marginal as far as build goes. There are some better builds out there, but for that you sacrifice size and folding ability. I think they hit the sweet spot with these.
For the price I don''t think you will find a better feature balance out there.
Everything was surprisingly good except the boom mic which was just ok.
There are a lot of great features on here like multi-link bluetooth you won''t find on most headphones so I can say confidently this is the best ANC over ear headphones to park your hard earned money into.
